So a relative of mine died in Inverurie in 1972. A kind soul on r/genealogy was good enough to check out the DC at the Mitchell library on a recent trip:
Donald Forsyth Hutcheson, single, born 18 Nov 1878, died 10 Apr 1972.
No father listed. Mother Jane Hutcheson (deceased).
Informant listed as XXXXXXXXXX, foster daughter.
So two things: What is the definition of a Foster-Child in Scotland? Is it anything like the US version?
And secondly, a quick search online reveals one possible of the proper age still living (I hope!) in Inverurie. Does anyone have access to Postal Addresses in Inverurie environs? The online portals like 192.com all want you to pay to see the entire address. I would love to contact this person and see what I can find out about my great grand uncle Donald!
Folks here on RootsChat have always been so helpful in the past!
Hope everyone is well!! Here's a link to the thread with more info on Uncle Donald and my Hutcheson line.... https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=764025.msg6157534#msg6157534

Hi
Rootschat has a no living persons policy so her name needs to be removed from your post. No personal details such as address etc can be posted here
I think there are other websites offering the same access as 192 but you will still have to pay for the full entry

Ok I removed the name....maybe someone can still help! Can you post a link to the websight please?

Use google to search online electoral registers and see who offers the best deal. I used one a couple of years back which gave me one days access for about £4 but can’t remember the name of it

Find my Past offer a free 14 day trial and they advertise electoral registers

What is the definition of a Foster-Child in Scotland?
A foster child is a child who lives with and is brought up by someone other than its parents or a relative, but is not formally or legally adopted by them. In some cases fostering is short-term, and in others it may be a permanent arrangement.
Is it anything like the US version?
I have no idea because I don't know what the 'US version' is :)

Good Idea, I'll try either of those!

It's pretty much the same thing then!

Are they not in the BT Phone Book?

All you need is a surname and town.

Hi Fogmoose
Online companies such as 192.com use the 'edited' versions of the electoral registers to produce their name and address lists.
There are 3 things to consider.
When you register to vote over here you do not have to state your date of birth so their age ranges can be way off.
The registers are compiled alphabetically within the address and do not show a marital status or family relationship.
And since 2002 we have had the ability to 'opt out' of the electoral register so that our details are not sold to sales and marketing companies who buy the 'edited' version.
The death cert details you have are from 1972, the informant may have changed her surname in the intervening years or even died herself.
If you are going to do a free trial with FindMyPast make sure you take one that includes UK records as you are US based. Their US version may not include what you are hoping to find.

Very useful info from everyone. I'll check the BT link first before trying any free trials....hopefully the person I'm looking for is still living, need to do a little more research and see if I can find a birthdate for them but just got home from the midnight shift and need to go to sleep....I'll post an update later! Thanks to all!

So a quick update. I posted two snail-mail letters to Inverurie a few days ago, and will keep my fingers crossed. I know it's a long-shot, considering that the person in question would have to have been less than age 30 or so in 1972 to still be living...but you never know, stranger things have happened! Will update if there any response! Happy Holiday Season to all my fellow RC'ers!!!
