Title: FELINFOEL, LLANELLY
Post by: rebekahm28 on Monday 12 November 18 20:36 GMT (UK)
I have received my 3x great grandmothers asylum records and it states that she 'was a native of Felinfoel'. Her name was Mary Price nee Davies and she was born in 1838 according to info her daughter gave. Her parents died of old age and she had three brothers who died of heart disease. Her late husband was James Price a quarryman. But her children were born/baptised in Glamorgan, she probably married there too, and her last address was Aberkenfig in Glamorgan before she died in 1911 in Bridgend asylum. Felinfoel is quite far from Aberkenfig. The name is so common and her childrens death certs dont give anything away. Can I get further back?

Have you found family on any census? what were children names, dates born etc.

When does it state admitted to institution & date of death..

All info may help..any other clues to family?

Hoping to help...

No I can’t find anyone on the felinfoel census . Mary was under her married name Price when admitted to Bridgend asylum in 1904 but I have the records until the present day of her children, grandchildren etc. Trying to find her before marriage.

Looking through census think have found family.  Mary is in Bridgend asylum in 1911. With son Daniel & wife in 1901.

First child is Ann/Annie born 1869 in Cowbridge? Then Henry b Penllyn

There is only one marriage for couple in area 1855 -1869 in Bridgend

Marriages Dec Q 1867
DAVIES    Mary        Bridgend    11a   709
Price    James        Bridgend    11a   709

Marriage from familysearch

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JV3J-B2R Gives her father as Morgan

Mary gives Wenvoe in 1881, Carmarthen 1891, all other pob Llanelly age consistent to birth around 1838, all clues can help narrow, Davies is very common and also could go as David/Davis.

Yes thanks, as said in post I have Mary's asylum records, her death record in 1911 and her tree upto the present date. Its before marriage we cant find her. Im not sure she married in Bridgend as she was from Llanelly but Ive ordered the marriage cert, she may have married in Penllyn as she was there in 1870 and possibly before (its just north-west of Cowbridge where 1st child was born). Her daughter stated she was from Felinfoel on the asylum records.

Do you have anything on James Price?  On the above marriage gives him a widow with father James

This bapt would fit with age & place on census

Hopefully additional info from marriage may help determine if correct one.

the parish record of the marriage is on FindMyPast. Both of full age, residence Penllyn for both, James noted as labourer, his father a mason, Mary Ann a servant, her father Morgan a collier. Both marked, witnesses Elizabeth Jenkins and Edward Thos. Munden.

I have received the marriage cert but realised I dont know their parents names for definite  -so don't know if it's the correct marriage. I'm going round in circles, I'm so sorry for the late reply but hadn't realised I had messages. With these surnames there are so many of the same name. Felinfoel was new to me, didn't know about that until the asylum records. I dont know if I should be looking for marriages in Bridgend, Aberkenfig, Tondu (where her kids were baptised), Llanelly, or wherever. She even claimed birthplace Wenvoe on one random census.  Ive done DNA but found nobody researching this family.
