Could some kind soul let me know if any Bruntons appear on the militia lists on the first decade of the 1800s. I would assume Calder area.
Thanks in advance

Hi
If someone was a Constable - an exempt occupation, would they appear on the Militia Lists in the early 1800s. (He dows appear on the 1811 one).
I have someone whos children were born in the hamlet, but he does not appear on the militia lists, even though he should have. (theres also the fact all the houses were occupied in the hamlet, so goodness knows where he lived)

What 'Hamlet' where?
There are literally 000s + Hamlets in Scotland i.e. area names would benefit your query.

I know the hamlet, that wasn't relevant to the question though, unless certain areas had different rules for the lists.

You knowing doesn't help others willing to help without more info.
"I would assume Calder area"
Good luck with your research.

That is the incorrect area, that post was specifically asking if the names appeared on the militia lists in Calder.
The initial post here stated "I have someone whos children were born in the hamlet, but he does not appear on the militia lists,"
These are two different areas, so your assumption that the area was Calder is incorrect.
Again the area is NOT relevant to the question asked, which was
"If someone was a Constable - an exempt occupation, would they appear on the Militia Lists in the early 1800s. (He does appear on the 1811 one)."

You asked a question, then related it to 'the hamlet' without specifying which hamlet. It was perfectly reasonable to ask which hamlet.
Your implied assumption that the practice was the same in all hamlets is incorrect.
