				Hi there
I am trying to find the birth of my great great grandma Margaret knott- father Edward knott

Recently come to light she probably wasn’t born in Ireland and I came across two hits on ancestry but I can’t look at them as I don’t have worldwide subscription. She was born roughly around 1878 as her marriage lists her as 25 but census shows she was same age as husband- 23.

 The record I came across is in;
Select births and baptism india. Has her with a middle name of Elizabeth.

 Thank you

Sorry I did mean ellen.... I was thinking of my mum for some reason.

Would there be any other documents available for Edward being over there?

Haven’t even come across a death record or marriage for him so wondered if those things happened when away from ireland
-
What was Edward's birth year and place please?

As yet cannot see any reference to Edward in India other than the baptism posted.

Not found his birth yet I’m afraid. He was meant to be a soldier so I hoped I could find his records to get a date or rough idea. I now don’t even know if he was born in Ireland!
 Or even where he died

I’m really struggling with all my Irish links :-(

Yes that’s my post from earlier trying to locate Margaret’s birth in Ireland
-
Looking at the 1873 baptism register entry for Margaret Ellen Knott, her father Edward was a private in the 51st Regiment.

So now I have to search for the 51st regiment... English or Irish lol

That can be on my list of things to do the rest of the week I think
-
Well they won't be Irish Army!!

-
51st Regiment Yorkshire Kings Own Light Infantry: Private Edward Knott Service no 1161. Entry in Forces War Records for 1871 and 1879.
Also FindMyPast has service records and 51st Regiment has enquiry service.. they may have early records.
Worth tracking down as service record could give dob.

Private Edward Knott born Umbersleigh, Worcestershire circa 1840/41. Enlisted in 51st Regiment on 28 February 1859, discharged in 1879. Intended place of residence originally was c/o William Knott, 5 Kings Street, West Bromwich but this was scrubbed out and altered to "Waterford".

No marriage details in the army papers but his wife's name was Margaret per the (RC) baptism record

Thank you, yes a few bits had been found late on yesterday. I will have to see if my library has a FindMyPast subscription so I can print the info etc.
Quite shocked of it being a yorkshire regiment though as so many years later their great great grandchildren or whatever moved here and chose yorkshire too

Quite shocked of it being a yorkshire regiment

Recruiting sergeants went all over the islands to find new recruits so not really a surprise.
-
The 51st Regiment wasn't tagged to Yorkshire until the 1870's. Edward Knott originally attested for the 31st Foot in Bristol in 1859. He transferred to 51st in 1861.

-
				Suppose it’s just coincidence

-
Also a pension record for him on FindMyPast, dated July 1882, issued at Waterford

-
So is this an older brother of Margaret Ellen Knott?

Edward Knott  buried Faizabad at St. Mary's church in 1872 his occupation was  son of Pte. 51st Regt. K.O.L  Infy

Yes I quickly printed that hit I seen on family search. I think it’s definately possible

-
There is this odd entry off free bdm

 Marriages Dec 1865
 Carberry    Margaret        Manchester    8d   760
 Carbury    Margaret        Manchester    8d   760

I can't work out who the groom is, maybe a possible for Edward Knott for one of these ladies?

-
				Freebmd - 2 males, 2 females [ 1 of them indexed under 2 spellings].
 Marriages Dec 1865
 Burney    Michael        Manchester    8d   760
 Carberry    Margaret        Manchester    8d   760
 Carbury    Margaret        Manchester    8d   760
 Crinion    Mary        Manchester    8d   760
 Duckworth    James        Manchester    8d   760
 No Edward Knott there.

Yeah I seen this one. Need to go through all the links and see if dates and stuff match up. Hopefully they do then I’m a tad further in to the rabbit hole of my Irish side
