Hope this helps.
Kind regards

Hi,
The ship 'Vocalist' arrived in Australia on 11th October 1856. Link here: https://www.records.nsw.gov.au/searchhits_nocopy?id=49&ship%20name=Vocalist&year=1856&month=0

Hi,
Here is a link to a pdf of the original passenger list of the 'Lady Ann', which arrived on 11th Oct 1857. Link here: https://www.archives.sa.gov.au/sites/default/files/documentstore/passengerlists/1857/GRG35_48_1_57-11_Lady%20Ann.pdf
It shows the following Erringtons (on page 1):
Errington, Joseph, Mary, Martha, William, Annie, Emma & Joseph & it shows them to be from the county of Surrey.
Joseph & Mary are shown as 37 years old, Martha as a 12 year old domestic servant, William as aged 9, Annie aged 6, Emma aged 4 and Joseph aged 2.
The family also appear on the last page of the document, which is a Nominee Remittance form, showing (if I read it correctly!) that a John Allen either payed for their voyage or made a contribution towards it.
Hope this helps anyway.
Kind regards
David
PS, with Martha on board with her parents, it makes my first two replies incorrect! Apologies for that.

Thank you for your help everyone,
I wonder where Thomas went to? We have him as father to Alice but nothing else...
Any ideas where to look? Do I need to go searching around Adelaide???
Bit far though :D
Thanks again, I'm sure more info will turn up

Might be better to get the marriage certificate for Martha and James Bailey to see if she is listed as being a widow
Perhaps they we not married ?.....
You could also try the birth certificate for Alice or do you have that already ?

Thanks Rosie,
I'll try and find the marriage certificate.
This is the only real info I have about Alice

Hi there if this is the only information you have on Alice where did you get her parents names from
Rosie

Ah yes I believe they came from my mother.
And she told me the other day that she didn't have anything on them.
Hmm.
-
Not sure if it is him or not but I've found a Thomas Williams that died 30th December 1865. He was buried at West Terrace Cemetery in Adelaide.
Unfortunately not much other information there.

South Australia BDM indexes are free to search online....
https://www.genealogysa.org.au/resources/online-databases.html
There are RootsChatters on the Australia board who have other resources which cannot be found online.

The index has relative named as Joseph [DH] which is 'deceased husband', not father.

Thanks Debra,
I guess I'm still struggling to work out where Thomas went to after the birth of his daughter and as someone suggested earlier maybe he and Martha weren't married.
Also the Bailey connection sounds like a good line of enquiry but without knowing for sure do I want to spend money on a marriage certificate only to find out it isn't her. Then again I guess that's part of family history taking a swing at things and seeing what happens.

Information re the Errington family arriving per Lady Ann, 1857 plus the birth of Caroline Ellen Lady Ann ERRINGTON ,27 August 1857, on the voyage which is also recorded in the UK Register of births at sea.
Some of this has already been mentioned but thought it might be worth putting it altogether, and with a bit more detail.) (Once again, working backwards)
1851 census, at Harders? Rd, Peckham
Joseph Errington 31, stoker at the? Works, b Barnett
Mary Errington 31, b Peckham as are all of the children
Martha Errington 7
William Errington 3
Anne Errington 4 Mo
Mary Wilson 70, mother-in-law (pauper), b Peckham
(Harders Rd is still shown on Googlemap but it's 20th century housing - perhaps bombed?)
Marriage at St Mary, Lambeth, 4 December, 1843
(Spelling of Willson is used on the image and is also the name signed by the bride)
Joseph ERRINGTON, bachelor, labourer, Father: Thomas ERRINGTON (dec'd), occupation: smith
Mary Ann Elizabeth WILLSON, spinster, Father: Joseph WILLSON (dec'd), plasterer
Both give residence as Park St, Lambeth.
Both sign.
Witnesses: J's L GAWLER, Edw'd POWELL
William Joseph ERRINGTON,
b 12 October, 1847; baptised 14 November at St Giles, Camberwell
Parents: Joseph (labourer) and Mary Ann Elizabeth ERRINGTON, of Harders Rd, Peckham
Joseph ERRINGTON,
b 13 Sep 1819, baptised 3 June 1821 at St Giles, South Mimms, Barnet
Parents: Thomas (blacksmith) and Mary ERRINGTON, of Mims side?,
A sibling, Dorothy b May 6, 1821 also baptised the same day
Sorry, don't have time for a more extensive search - there are some of the children shown on the FreeBMD index.

Some baptisms - fairly consistent in having the baptisms when the babies were about a month old, except for Joseph who must have been baptised shortly before they sailed.
Baptism: 28 April 1844 at church of St Mary Magdalene, Peckham
Martha Collins ERRINGTON d/o
Joseph (gas stoker) and Mary ERRINGTON, living at Orchard Peckham
Baptism: 15 February 1846 at St Giles, Camberwell (born 16 January, 1846)
Thomas William ERRINGTON s/o
Joseph (labourer) and Mary ERRINGTON, living at Harders Rd, Peckham
1847 William Joseph baptism shown in previous post
Baptism: 29 December, 1850 at St Giles, Camberwell (born 1 Dec, 1850)
Annie ERRINGTON d/o
Joseph (labourer) and Mary ERRINGTON, living at Harders Rd, Peckham
Baptism: 2 January 1853 at St Giles, Camberwell, (born 4 December 1852)
Emma ERRINGTON d/o
Joseph (labourer) and Mary ERRINGTON, living at Harders Rd, Peckham
Baptism: 28 June 1857 at at church of St Mary Magdalene, Peckham
Joseph ERRINGTON s/o
Joseph (labourer) and Mary Ann ERRINGTON, living at Peckham
Looks as though Joseph was aged about 2 as his birth is registered March Qr, 1855
Free BMD index has a couple of births and corresponding death for ERRINGTON infants registered Camberwell in the same time frame, but as it's only an index I can't tie them to Joseph and Mary. A couple of on-line trees have incorrect information.

Thank you very much for this information :)
