AS far as I'm aware you cannot attach documents in either PM's or Look Up Requests.

Personal Messages are for just that - personal data.
I wouldn't class a photograph as personal data?

If it pertains to an existing topic, then add it to the topic.

If you are trying to send it to a person who has asked for a copy of the photograph, then use PM to exchange email addresses, and send it via email.

I don't know how it was done but I received a PM with images.
It was over a year ago and the person hasn't been on line since Sept 2017 but I'll send them a PM and ask how they did it.

I just used the Quote to send the message and can now see all the images are from Photobucket
address appears to be inserted between

Number and etc obviously changes depending on the image

I haven't sent the PM

Thanks Hallmark - I did try the image and the brackets came up, but couldn't see a way to attach anything.  Where are the "quotes"?  Can see them when we are on a topic, but not in PM's?

As I have said already you can not attach images to pms. The image button that hallmark is showing you is when you wish to include a image that is embedded in a website, pressing this button would include part of the webpage.

The image in a PM has to be a web address, I think, not from your computer, hence the ones I got were from Photobucket.

or what sarah said ;D

I find that very unsatisfactory.
We are not allowed to attach anything copyright to a forum message, but there should be no objection in a PM as it's for the purpose of private study and is not being published.
So why does RootsChat not allow it?
That is not a rhetorical question!

The simple answer is that you can use the PM system to exchange email addresses, phone numbers, mailing addresses, etc. so that you can then share other information.

But you can attach snippets of certificates (etc) for the purposes of deciphering.

I have replied to the ladies post and by email, this topic has been ticked completed.

It has never been an option, just the same reason as my local butcher does not sell pints of beer or ladies frocks and you can't get a cup of tea poured down the telephone line.
