Title: Help Identifying Job
Post by: GemmaL on Monday 13 August 18 22:16 BST (UK)
I'm trying to identify the abbreviation written next to my 3x great uncle's job, I've tried doing some googling but haven't come up with anything.

Any help or ideas would be great

Image text: C.I.A.RO.F. Birtley Light Labouring Special Con.(?)

I am not bringing up the whole line, all I can get is ;”Labouring Special Con”
I wonder if it is Constable,so he would be employed as a Labourer but serving as a Special Constable
also. Not sure if that would be a position with remuneration or if it was completely voluntary.
Can you post the whole line?
Not sure what the  C.I.A Ro F Birtly Lights bit is.
Hope this helps.         Viktoria.

That is the whole line sadly, the end of the 1939 census cuts off at Con.

If you can search the '39 register his name is Ralph Barren 24th Feb 1891

I've been wondering if it's military related but I can't find anything even similar to it which is very odd

It's no bother, I feel like an idiot not figuring RO.F meant Royal Ordnance Factory when I was literally researching it a few months back... doh!

Chief Inspector of Armaments. The team that inspected the shells etc rather than making them.

Alan.
