HI, hoping someone out there can help me date this pic. We think it is either Ann Alice Franks b1842 or her mother Mary Ann Cartner B 1808. Both born in UK. Came to Australia in 1849. Alice died 1913. Mary Ann Died 1858. Hoping someone might know something about the style of dress that might help us date it. All help appreciated.

This is a tintype so the earliest this can be is mid 1860's. Her hair & dress style is typical late 1860's - mid 1870's.

Hi Jim, Thanks for the reply. My cousin says that the photo is on glass, so not a tin type. Does that alter your dating?

There's what looks like rust down the side.

He says its on glass, so I dunno.

Here's a quick cleanup. Hope you enjoy!

Wow that looks awesome....thanks
So ive discovered that glass photos preceded tin types so this makes the photo pre 1850s....

.
This isn't an ambrotype.
It isn't pre 1850's as ambrotypes didn't arrive until 1851.
Please refer to my previous post re. the date.
