Returning to ancestry after several years (illness) and trying to find census (1841/1851) details of Robert Kite and Martha Kite in Dover. They had at least one child (Edward Impett Kite born/christened at St Mary the Virgin church in 1837. Scant details I know, but am hoping.

Martha Kite (birthdate not stated)

Parents: Roberts (cabinet maker) & Martha, of Folkestone.

The 1851 census states Robert is married - 1861 he is widowed.  I can't see a suitable death for Martha though.  I do wonder if the 1851 is wrong and that she died many years before

Another likely child:

Birth reg: Female Kite, mother’s maiden name Impett, Dec qtr 1840 Dover.

There’s a matching infant death, aged 0, same quarter.

Witnesses: John Smeed, Eliza Hills.


*NB: It really does say Roberts rather than Robert, both on this marriage (including his signature) and on the 1832 baptisms.

Interesting!  I think the birthplace actually says Kent Stourmouth rather than West Stourmouth.

So it looks as though they separated.

In 1841 there is a 30 yr old “Matha” Kite (no occupation, born in county) in York St, Dover.

Anc have her as Katha; FindMyPast as Martha.
