Added - forgot about nephritis - an extremely painful kidney infection.

TB and kidney infection sounds a very nasty combination, this chap was in the Army during WW2 and may have picked up both during his time in uniform.
I thought the other mentioned forceps so guessing the ileus was as a result of the lady giving birth. This one is an interesting twist as it's a lady from Middlesborough remembered on the Bagworth memorial whose husband was in the RAF - Desford aerodrome was a cycle ride away -its nice the village remembered her like that.
