Good morning
Could I request a look up for a Rachel Fitch please.
She's a maternal ancestor and the only place I can find a reference to her is on other people's Ancestry Trees. They are unsourced so I'm uncertain where they got their information.
Apparently Rachel was born in 1757 (location not stated) but probably in Essex.
The, oddly, baptised - 04 Mar 1774 • Bradwell-Near-The-Sea,Essex,England
She then married John Dowsett in Prittlewell in 1778.
The birth date seems reasonable for marriage in 1778 but the baptism, whilst not impossible, does seem odd.
Could someone look up her possible place of birth and also the baptism date please,
Many thanks,
Jill

The baptism date is entirely consistent with her parents being members of a non-conformist (baptist) church. In fact it corresponds almost exactly with my own baptism age.
The other possibility is that she was simply not baptised but when she wanted to be married or confirmed this had to be corrected.
You may find some joy with regard to her parents by looking at non-conformist records as for example baptist churches did record births in their records.

She was baptised along with her sister Thamasin at St Thomas church, Bradwell On sea

But was she the Rachel Fitch baptized in 1774?

The other thing is that the parents had already had a Rachel baptized in Bradwell, 8 May 1768 (image 383), and buried the following year.

Yet another set of twins from my maternal line!
Thanks everybody. Certainly clears up the query
