Title: Mercy RICHARDSON 1804-1852/3
Post by: Eyesee on Thursday 02 August 18 09:16 BST (UK)
Mercy RICHARDSON was born in Brede in November 1804, daughter of Thomas RICHARDSON and Mercy FURNER.

According to letters written by her brother Thomas RICHARDSON here in New Zealand dated June 1853, to his brother Henry in Brede, it was mentioned that they were sorry to hear of the death of their dear sister Mercy. Unfortunately nothing about exactly when or where, or whether she was still Mercy RICHARDSON or was married with a completely different surname.

Does anyone have access to Brede burials to see if there is a likely candidate there. Her parents were already deceased and buried at Brede, Thomas in 1835 and Mercy in 1837.

Thanks.

The parish of Brede was a constituent parish of the Registration District of Rye, from 1837 until 1935.

So this death might fit?

March qtr 1851
Rye Registration District     vol 7, page 351

Carter, Mercy   (GRO has age as 45)

Other Mercy deaths around that time seem to be too young (under 30) or too old (over 70)?

Have just looked at the Sussex FHG database for burials at St. George, Brede and there are no Mercy's, RICHARDSON or otherwise buried in the period 1839 to 1864.

Plenty of Richardson burials mostly before 1850 but a smattering afterwards but nobody by the name of Mercy.

Hi Ian,
Thomas RICHARDSON is my 3rd great-grandfather. Do you still have copies of these letters? Would it be possible to see them, I'd love to see his writing?
I can share any records I have for Thomas - coroner's report, Poor Law Union Correspondence, etc.

Thank you!
