Hi All,
My grandpa Bill Denny passed away this weekend.
For years he ran Denny's Bakehouse on Lynedoch Street in Greenock.
I'm looking for any photographs, newspaper clippings, or to see if anyone remembers it and has any memories to share.
I've been through the Eugene Mehat photo collection (Mclean Museum) and can't find any photos there.
Any other information would be welcome.

There are some good memories on that old forum post.
We've tried to find some of the bake-house recipes for the pies and honey-cakes, but they seem to have been all kept in the head. And the measurements were all in 'sack of flour' quantities, so I suppose they're lost to time.

Hello there,
I was sorry to hear about your Granpa's death. I lived in number 10 Lyndoch Street for a good few years and was often sent up the street to Denny's Bakery for rolls and my favourite honey buns. They were the best honey buns in the world :)
I will see if I can find any pictures of the shop amongst my collection.

I grew up in the 1960s and 70s in Lyle Street. In my school days, a mince pie and chips at dinner time was a major event to look forward to. If my mum and dad had a bit more to spend, it was a steak pie and chips which was a bonus. The mince pies were far superior to Aulds.
Then in the 1970s, when I was an apprentice, I can remember the Q was actually outside in the street at lunchtime, with locals and workmen waiting to place their order. I can also remember all the staff faces as if it was yesterday.
In the 1970s, these were strikes by the bakers union, and all the bread from Bilslands, Milanda in Glasgow and Mother Pride, Denny's Q was halfway up Lynedoch Street, as they were selling bread home baked, and could not keep up with demand.
Later in life, I was surprised to hear that one of my uncles, now in his 70s, actually served his time in Denny's as a baker. He is still with us. My mother's cousin was also a shop assistant in there in the 1970s.
Sorry, I have no photos. What year did Denny's actually stop trading?
