I have ask some questions about jeremiah holy. holey. I was wondering if anyone can tell me about Jonathan B Were. I know he brought people out on different ships. One ship was the MARY NIXON. I had my great grandparents on this ship but I can't found out what work they, how long they had to work for him.

There must have had special jobs to do when they came out, and numbers of years to do it. So what sort of work would they had to do
-
It may be an idea to give us info. & dates on what you already have, from where they arrived in Aus. etc. to help with your questions as there's no info. attached in your original post with any clues to anything you know?

The digitised image of the passenger list
http://indexes.records.nsw.gov.au/ebook/list.aspx?series=NRS5316&item=4_4814&ship=Mary%20Nixon arriving Port Phillip, 30 Novwember 1841
At page 3, in alphabetical order by surname, the list of Unmarried Males:
Jeremiah HOLEY is noted as aged 23, a labourer, Roman Catholic, can read and write, from Cork, and the bounty is £19
At page 4, in alphabetical order by surname, the list of Unmarried Females:
Elizabeth BARRY is noted as aged 26, a housemaid, Roman Catholic, can read and write, from Cork and the bounty is £19
You will notice that basically all those bounty emigrants were per Mr Jonathan B WERE.

At NSW BDM there’s the following marriage indexed:
1843
Volume 93, Line 2236, and the district as LR.
Jeremiah HOLY and Elizabeth BARRY.
https://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/Pages/family-history/tracing-your-family-tree.aspx
https://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/Pages/family-history/family-history.aspx
This is from the era prior to civil registration, and there will likely be scant information on the registration, so it is UNLIKELY to give information about their origins or their parents.
https://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/Pages/family-history/registry-records.aspx
LR is NSW BDM code for : St Francis Roman Catholic, Melbourne, Victoria.
https://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/Pages/family-history/early-church-codes.aspx
Victoria was not hived off from the colony of New South Wales until 1851, so that’s why the passenger list for the Mary Nixon is found at NSW archives and the marriage is found at NSW BDM. Likely there will be similar records held by Victoria’s archives and bdm.

Why emigrants?
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/92677138 13 Feb 1841
Convictism had effectively ceased to NSW in 1840, so they needed population from free sources instead.

Are you only looking for early information about Jeremiah HOLEY?
You may already have some of this, and I don't want to search further if you have this information. I'm assuming that this is your man.
Applied for renewal of hotel licence, April 1855

I see a mention on TROVE of the death of his son in Geelong, June 1857.

Insolvent 1859

He seems to have been in the Geelong area but I couldn't see any mentions in the 1840s
