Alexander Keard was born in Aberdeen approx. 1804 and joined the army aged 18. He was in Woolwich, London when his daughter Isabella Lumsden Keard was born. Pleases does anyone know if he married Anne Gunn or Anne Campbell. Thanks.

Ann Gunn born Aberdeen approx. 1807 married Alexander Keard. They named their eldest daughter Ann Campbell Keard and the younger daughter Isabella Lumsden Keard. The Isabella Lumsden was after Alexanders mother and I am wondering if maybe Ann Gunns mother was nee Campbell and Ann Campbell Keard was named after her. Please does anyone know if this might be true. Thanks.

Ann Gunn born Aberdeen
How do you know she was born in Aberdeen? She was in England from at least 1835 when dtr Ann was born and all the census entries I can find her on just give Scotland as her birthplace

Thanks Carole for your help. I had been told that she was born in Scotland but didn't know of the marriage details. Alexander joined the Royal Artillery in 1823 so could have met her in England but wonder if they would have travelled to Scotland for the wedding in those days With the fathers name maybe I'll get her mothers maiden name. Thanks again.

.I am looking into the family of Alexander Keard B. Aberdeen approx. 1806. He married Ann Gunn (father John Gunn) 8/3/1826 St. Nicolas Church Aberdeen. His mother was Isabella Lumsden but I do not know who she married. She Could possibly have been the daughter of John Lumsden and Isabella Simpson as they had a son named Alexander also. Ann Gunn could possibly have the middle name of Campbell as she named her elderst daughter Ann Campbell Keard and there is a death in London, where they lived, of Ann Campbell Keard matching the age of Ann Gunn/Keard . They named their next daughter Isabella Lumsden Keard and other children were James Robert, Elizabeth Gunn, Rachael and Duncan. Alexander Keard joined the Royal Artillery as a career and that's why they lived mostly in London. Please can anyone help me with this family. Thanks

The Scottish had a naming pattern which not all families followed but yours possibly did
the first born son was named after the paternal grandfather
Second born son after maternal grandfather
Third born son after father
First born daughter after maternal grandmother
Second born daughter after paternal grandmother
Third born daughter after mother
of course there are flaws to this missing baptism records babies dying young parents having the same name as their parents etc
-
This looks like Alexander's parents - and his own baptism in 1805:
BIRTH/BAPTISM: in Aberdeen to parents: Alexander CARD and Isobel (Isabel/Isabella) LUMSDEN
William CARD 10 Nov 1802
Helen CARD bp 21 Jan 1804
Alexander CARD bp 7 Sep 1805
Rachael CARD bp 26 Jul 1807
John CARD bp 22 Oct 1809
Catherine CARD bp 2 Feb 1812
MARRIAGE:
Alexander CAIRD and Isabel LUMSDEN, 17 Dec 1801 Aberdeen

For reference - Alexander & Ann's known issue (Rachel was middle name Duncan when she married but not on Birth registration? And I see no son named Duncan, but a last daughter named Alexandrina...?) :
Ann Campbell KEARD, abt 1835 Kent
James Robert KEARD, bp 1838 Portsmouth
Isabella Lumsden KEARD, 1840
Elizabeth Gunn KEARD, b 1843 Woolwich
Rachael Duncan KEARD, b abt 1845 Woolwich
Alexandrina KEARD, b abt 1848 Stepney
I agree naming pattern is such a valuable tool and often applied. But it's difficult to confidently identify a naming pattern with a near 10 year gap from 1826 marriage to eldest known child Ann born abt 1835.
If they DID follow pattern and Isabella 1840 is the 2nd born daughter, then is suggests Ann GUNN's mother is Ann - maybe Ann CAMPBELL. You already know Ann GUNN's father is John (as it's apparently mention on her marriage lines). The known children suggests there might be at least 2 sons missing, who may have died in infancy - one named Alexander and the other, John - again, if they followed pattern...
The 1826 marriage record for Alexander and Ann may be useful if it gives an occupation and/or abode for her father, John GUNN.
Cheers
