I don't know of anyone is able to help me. I am researching the above Elizabeth Prike, born 30th December 1859 in Laceby, near Grimsby. She married William Francis Sheppard on 8th November 1877. His father's name according to the marriage record, was Francis Sheppard.
I have searched and searched, but cannot find anything at all as to what happened to them after the marriage. I have also searched for the birth of William Francis Sheppard, and cannot find a birth for him either or any censuses for him before marriage. I have searched censuses, death records, emigration records, although I do not have an international subscription to Ancestry, only the British one.
Can anyone suggest anything.
Thanks, Diana

Oh, thank you very much. That looks like it is them. Says Elizabeth was born Laceby, and William born Diss, Norfolk.
I looked on freeBMD, but could not find his birth. There seems to be so many ways of spelling 'Shepherd', its a bit of a minefield. Now I know where he was born, I will look for him again.
Thanks very much,
Diana

Hi Mabel and Rosie,
Thank you both for all the brilliant information.
Mabel, I think you are right re the 1861 census and William's family in Norfolk, thank you.
Rosie, thanks very much for all the info as regards Elizabeth and her being 'housekeeper' to John Burley and the eventual marriage. When you say there are some deaths at sea between 1881-1883, are there records of deaths at sea somewhere? I wondered how you knew that?
Thanks to you both,
Diana

Hi, I have just found on Ancestry, a death for a William Shepherd age 28, born 1855 Died 6th March 1883. Says - Merchant Marine - at sea, Great Britain. Needs looking into I think.
There are records which I have also just found, of fishermen who died at sea 1880 - 1882, but William is not on them. If he died in 1883, he wouldn't be.

Oh thank you very much Trish. I have only just seen your message. No wonder I couldn't find his birth!
That's strange that his name was registered as Francis?
I am very grateful for the information, thank you.
