I'm looking for the descendants of my grandfather Joseph's brother John Cunningham. John was born in York. The family were living in York on the 1911 census. They also had a sister born 1911. Their parents were Joseph and Nancy/Annie nee McGuire. Their father Joseph was to die in WW1 in 1916. Their mother wdudnt remarry but had two other children both girls. One was called Margaret I think the other was Doreen

If you get the birth certificate for John for exact date of birth, you can then try and find him on 1939 to see who he is living with.
-
A free search of the 1939 gives a John W Cunningham living in Leeds in 1939 with Louisa, 1 other person and 1 closed record. By elimination his date of birth is 14th June 1908.
By elimination other person is Mary, born 1934

My grandfather Joseph a Cunningham was the first born. I have his information it's his younger brother John I'm looking for
-
My great grandfather died on 14th February 1916 at Ypres. He's buried in a war grave there. There was no third son Richard. Nancy had a sister Janey who married William Cunningham, Joseph's brother. Richard could have been theirs. They could have been in Bradford.

If you apply for his birth certificate it will give you his exact date of birth.
We can then check to see if the 1939 that I posted for John living in Leeds is him or someone else.
It might also help in finding his death.

Just received birth certificate for John William Cunningham born 1908 in York.

The 1939 Register is not available on any FREE site, but if you are in the UK a lot of libraries offer free access to Ancestry and Findmypast, both of which have the 1939 Register.

'By elimination other person is Mary, born 1934'
Using free search for Mary Cunningham, 1934, Leeds, shows her as Cunninghan/Flanagan, and as she is showing she has died. You can get a free search but not see the actual copy of the register through FindMyPast 1939 register.
https://www.findmypast.co.uk/1939register
Look then for a marriage and any children (sorry, not on usual computer etc at the moment) for Mary.

The Louisa showing in 1939 might be his second wife, because there is this possible marriage:
Marriages March quarter 1939
John Cunningham Leeds North
Louisa Lowther Leeds North
There is also the possibility that Louisa might have been married before, so the blacked out entry could be a child of a first marriage for her, or a totally unrelated person.
Mary is shown as Cunningham/Flanagan, and I have previously posted a possible marriage.
This is followed by a death
Deaths June quarter 1960
Mary C Flanagan age 25 in Leeds 2c 144
Cannot see any births for children of the marriage.
There is this possible first marriage for John:
Marriages June quarter 1933
John W Cunningham Leeds North
Clara Howden Leeds North
but cannot see a death for Clara (nor a Leeds birth for Clara Howden)
It depends how much you want to spend to try and check if these are the correct records.
