Yes, The Schoolroom, Gouldson; yes .....agh Flats; yes The Chapman [maybe a hotel?]
2nd witness Mary Anne Mountain [made mark]
Still working on ....flats & 1st witness..... ???
ADDED; Think 1st witness surname begins with D or maybe B - maybe DONALD? First name John & second name is an abbreviation maybe beginning with S.
-
Yes is School Room Geraldton; Greenough Flats and Chapman and The Chapman known as Chapman Valley all around Geraldton, North of Perth West Aust

Second witness Mary Ann Mountain maybe relative of bride?
-
Thanks so much so far. Details of schoolroom confirmed and places of residence thanks. Will look into both a little more during the time frame. Yes I am hoping Mary Ann is a relative. Just a question here ... do you think it is Mary Anne or perhaps Mary Jane? Expert handwriting advice appreciated. Also any luck with first witness ?? I think John for first name?
-
Yes it is Mary Ann Mountain and she married Henry William Sheild 1869 Chapman River Geraldton.
Still working on John Surname starting with D …...
-
How about John McDonald. !!
-
I see what you mean, but as I see it the middle name has a horizontal bar at the end with a raised letter, which usually means a contraction as in bride's father's name Jas with a dot under the 's' - for James. It could of course be Mac ......
-
I think that is a good possibility, but perhaps written ... John Mc Donald ?
-
It doesn't match the rest of the d's on the end of other words, I agree with the mac or mc part.
All the bridal party signed with an x so that doesn't help matters either.
-
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Your have certainly solved a few of my questions.
The first witness is definitely John in my opinion. I am not sure about the Mc or Mac. In all the other M's at the beginning of words there seems to be a little loop at the start of the M. The first witness middle name or abbreviation comes from the bottom?? With regards the surname Donald appears to fit but perhaps it is Donale? Given he was a convict and so was Catherine's father I think I will do a troll through the convict database to see if anything jumps out at me.

As I see only the bride & 2nd witness made their mark, bridegroom & 1st witness signed.
-
Yes I stand corrected on that was just back looking for witness and noticed I had made an error.

Can't count the number of times I've done that ;) ;D ;D
