Ancestry has digitised nearly all of the extant parish records for Oxfordshire but they have nothing for Hailey before 1797. Earlier baptisms were recorded at St Mary's Church, Witney where there is this entry:
'3 March 1775 William Son of Mary French'
The absence of a father's name suggests that Mary was not married.

Same church:
'18 June 1777 Joseph Son of Mary French base born'
The expression 'base born' means that Joseph was born out of wedlock.

Oxfordshire FHS parish register disc for Hailey baptisms starts 1761. Only one William French baptism 2.2.1772 son of William & Sarah.

thank you so much for the info, don't suppose you came across any more children to William and Sarah, I have a marriage for them in Northleigh 26-12-1769

Janway,
The registers for Witney/Hailey are on Ancestry - if you don't subscribe I'm sure your local library has free access. As Carol mentioned, before the 1790s Hailey baptisms are included in those of St Mary, Witney, usually at the end of each year under a separate heading so they can be easily identified. It is worth checking St Marys itself though as the township of Hailey extended as far as West End and Woodgreen, which are far closer to that church than to the chapel at Hailey
