Title: Middlesex Court Session 8 April 1833
Post by: clancam37 on Thursday 24 May 18 01:39 BST (UK)
Can sks help with Court report for 8th April 1833.
Mary Ann PEART aged 15 years was tried for "robbing from her parents" and sentenced to 7 years transportation to Van Diemen's Land.  Trying to find her parents names -- were their names mentioned in the trial or newspapers of the day.
Kind regards

Have looked at the newspapers for that year and haven't come across anything relating to Mary Ann's parents (findmypast). There was a Robert Peart in Whitechapel around the 1820's - a pawnbroker, or Abraham & Hannah Peart in Bermondsey (son Abraham b1821), engineer.
Good luck with your hunt.

Yes, born in Berkshire ( Tasmanian Records).  As her parents accused her I hoped their names were recorded in Trial notes or newspapers of the day.
Thanks for your interest.

Looks like there may of been an earlier trial in 1830 involving Mary Ann but this time she is the accuser.

Ellen Barber, accused by Mary Ann Peart, her father being a greengrocer, of Tottenham Street, Saint Pancras, of using counterfeit money when purchasing a cucumber from his shop and by Charlotte Parker, of the same at her shop in the same street

The record is at the LMA  Reference Code:  MJ/SP/1830/09/022

There is a John PEART (widower) retired greengrocer of Tottenham St, born Beaconsfield, Berkshire in the 1851 census.
HO107/1494 / 303 pg 84

Modified to add:
This looks like him in the 1841 at Tottenham St:
John Peart       70
Charlotte Peart   55

Can't see any births to this couple yet, but I think this is Charlotte - died Dec qtr 1848 St Pancras (1/288) aged 69. And possibly John died Dec qtr 1852 St Pancras (1b/82) aged 78.

And a possibility - John PIRTS (?) married Charlotte NEWBOULD 28 July 1805 at St Anne, Soho, Westminster (on familysearch)

There is also a John PEART married Charlotte COMMINS 3 Aug 1808 at St George Hanover Square (on FreeReg)

Bell's New Weekly Messenger, Sunday 17 March 1833
John Pearl, an old man of decent appearance, who keeps green-grocer’s shop in Tottenham-street, charged his daughter, Mary Anne, aged 16, with robbing him. The early indications of depravity displayed displayed by the girl had almost broken the hearts of her parents. She had absconded three times from them, taking with her on each occasion quantity of their property.  Once her father followed her 200 miles, and it was with great difficulty that he could persuade her to return home.  She lately absconded with several large bundles of wearing apparel, and she was traced to the lodgings of some disreputable females. The old man said it was a painful thing to prosecute a daughter, but he felt she was incorrigible.

Yes, good find!

There is this ad in The Times, Dec 13, 1820

"Want places ...
As valet to a Gentleman, or Servant in a Family, in or out of livery; can cut or dress hair, and perfectly understands his business in both capacities; no objection to town or country and can be well recommended from a family in town. Direct to J.H. at Mr. Peart's, greengrocer at 10 Tottenham-Street, Fitzroy-Square."

Not sure if there was more than one greengrocer's on Tottenham St, or if John PEART had ceased business there by 1834. On 29 April 1834 there was advertisement for a cook at "Mr Mann's, Greengrocer, Tottenham-Street, Fitzroy-Square" (Morning Post, Monday, April 29, 1834), and also a fire on 23 December 1842 at the premises of "Mr Hibbert, greengrocer and fruiterer, Tottenham Street" (The Age, Sunday, December 25, 1842)

Maybe more than one, as John was still there in the 1841 and 1851 census.

Another advertisement, Morning Post, Friday, June 20, 1834:

"As Housemaid in a respectable family, or to attend upon an elderly Lady or two or three young Ladies, a young person of respectability, 25 years of age, who has no objection to a short distance from town. Respectable references can be given. Direct to J.H.B. at Mrs Peart's, 10, Tottenham-street, Tottenham-court-road."
