Hello I am sure that there are plenty of people who are aware of a particular resource but equally there may be some who are not.
I was looking to try to tidy up some facts for my family tree. I put in a search term and was surprised to find that there are records for Irish families for the 1841 and 1851 census.
From my understanding the censuses were used by applicants to try to prove their age in readiness for the Old Age Pension which covered southern as well as the northern areas. The two records that I found were dated for 1917 so in some respects the 1851 census has 'survived'. There is a search page on National Archives of Ireland which shows the family name searched for the parish and family members. I was very fortunate in finding that an applicant's mother's maiden name was given. This has helped me tremendously. I hope it is of use for someone.
Again, apologies if people already know this.

I haven't really tapped into the Irish side of my history for quite some while. I had my DNA tested and it was finds from this that got me to restart researching my maternal side of my history. I was, obviously, not aware of this resource and it was a delightful find for me.

I've been browsing the 1851 UK and Ireland Census on Ancestry - I was first taken there with a specific person in mind, but then began to look generally at surnames and had a slight bit of success but I've been trying to find a family named Milsop or similar and finding no one of that name at all, yet I know there were people by that name in Ulster at the time. So I checked here and went to the Irish site above but nothing - no one. It seems odd.
Was this census completed or is it just a few spots here and there?

It was completed but note the following:
The returns for 1821, 1831, 1841 and 1851 were, apart from a few survivals, notably for a few counties for 1821 and 1831, destroyed in 1922 in the fire at the Public Record Office at the beginning of the Civil War.

According to newspaper references, a Moses Milsop of Breagh and a Thomas Milsop (senior?) of Breagh were in a list of applications to register freeholds in 1829, a Moses Milsop had a wife Margaret who died on 30 October 1834, a 39 year old Moses Milsop of Breagh died on 23 March 1835, a Thomas Milsop of Breagh gets more mentions through to the 1840s.

Thanks, gaffy - I'll put that down as I continue to piece Milsops together.

May I ask what did "full age" mean on a marriage - was it totally vague?

In trying to look at Co Roscommon I'm at a loss to know which registration district to search. I've gone mostly through the entire list and can't find any anywhere near Roscommon - Am I missing something?
