I've been researching this branch for a while now and thought the Maiden Surname was STRANGE, however I have my doubts it even begins with S.......any ideas?

I've cheacked again, and yes I do think it is STRANGE, the 's' looks the same as other upper case 's's and the 't' has a flourish that the others have on the page.
Does look like an 'h' though!

"Strange" looks pretty clear to me.
I knew a Mr Strange in Lancashire in the 1940s.
