Hi, I wonder whether anyone can help me in my pursuit of information regarding my great grandad Ralph Harrison Usher (or Ralph H Usher). I have located a Ralph Harrison Usher - born in Sunderland 1886 or 87 - I believe he also married Elizabeth Harvey in 1913 (not certain this is him), would greatly appreciate any info pertaining to Ralph or Elizabeth

Wow, this is excellent information thank you, my Grandmother is Mary Ann Harrison Usher, we presumed that the Harrison was kept as it was her mothers maiden name, however that appears to be Harvey. If I understand correctly then Foster Usher was married to Isabella, who passed away, he had Ralph with someone who had the surname Harrison, I am a little confused that Ralph marries a Mary Allan or Warner, would it not be Harrison? I am unable to open the links that were sent, is it possible to share a screenshot. Thank you all for your help.
-
It is Foster who marries Mary Ann, after his wife Isabella dies. Mary Ann looks to be a widow who was previously married to William Warner, who died the year their child was born. Her maiden name was Harrison.

Durham records online
Isabella Usher
burial Sunderland cemetery,1883
abode 45 Vine Street
estimated birth 1847
-
Could it be that Ralph was born out of wedlock? To Ralph & Mary Ann Harrison, they then went on to marry different people, Ralph married a Mary Anna Allen and Mary Ann Harrison married to William Warner, quite a bit of supposition there, but possible explanation
-
just use for hints and tips, pay to view,Durham records oline
Foster Usher, burial Sunderland 1913 estimated birth year 1846
-
Yes sorry Jamjar, that seems logical & likely, would also explain perhaps the wish to keep Harrison, so there was a distinction between this family & Fosters first family

Thanks Radcliffe, appreciated.

why do you suppose, when his parents were married a year before his birth and they are all together in the 1901 census and 1911 census,
write every thing down form the different posts and then put it into order it might be easier to work out

This is excellent, thank you both for your help and thank you for your guidance Radcliff. If I understand the chain correctly, Mary Ann was married previously, firstly to a John Dowell, then to a William Warner, and finally she married Foster

Great info, thank you both, its fascinating watching your past unfold in front of you (and this has unfolded like a Dickens novel!), would I be right i thinking that Mary Ann may have been a twin, I noted her & a brother have the same age. Mary Ann & William Warner had two children, William & Grace, and both pass away? Very odd that David Dowell married a Mary Harrison!

Yes, I missed Grace as I wasn’t looking at alternate surname spelling.
Thomas may not be Mary’s twin:

Marrying a relative not unusual at that time, I don’t believe.

Wife "Jon" looks like it should be Ann, although if I was transcribing, I would have had to put it as "Arn"
