needing help tracing this young man. In 1833 births in Newquay were not recorded so the first trace of him would be in the 1841 census, but can't find him there either.
What I do know is that he arrived in Nelson New Zealand in 1895 as a seaman on the settlement ship Golconda. I have been unable to trace a crewlist for that ship for that year.
Henry jumped ship in Nelson and married a young lady who travelled on that voyage. Henry died in Nelson.
His marriage certificate shows Newquay but his death certificate says Truro. Stated his father was Henry and Mother named as Mary.
So my Henry should show in 1841 and 1851 census then disappear. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. There could also be doubt about his age so I have been scouring the 1830 to 1840 Henry's still to no avail. I am picking the religion would have been Wesleyan. Thank you everyone. Have attached copies of marriage and death certs

Can you clarify the date he arrived in NZ?
Think you may mean 1855 not 1895

Thanks you

Newquay doesn’t seem to be mentioned on the marriage certificate you have attached ???
Presumably “Harvey” on the marriage certificate is a mistranscription of Henry?
-
Some Cornish parish records are available here: http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org
-
The certificate for marriage, 1862 names him Thomas HARVEY.
The death certificate, 1883, Henry Charles THOMAS, names parents Henry THOMAS and Mary THOMAS formerly -, fathers occupation gardener.
What names do you have for his children.

Yes, this is him. I am trying to trace him back to the UK - heaps of Henry Thomas's but as I follow each one through - I find they are the wrong Henry's. A massive task when we have no proff of parents names
-
Your Henry THOMAS is a gardener. What is your source for him being crew on a ship, and leaving a ship in New Zealand.
Can you please name this children.
-
Henry does not show on the passenger list for the Golconda 1859. His statement to the inquest in Nelson says he was a crewman
-
Henry was my g g grandfather - his son was Ernest Wilfred - I have attached his birth certificate
-
The birth certificate for Ernest Wilfred THOMAS, born 25 Mar 1876, has father Henry THOMAS as informant.
Henry is giving information about himself....born New Quay......
Can you scan the inquest document please and post it here.

Newquay parish was created in 1882, prior to this Newquay was a hamlet in St. Columb Minor, so the parish records of St. Columb Minor would be where you should look for records of him, although it is possible he was recorded in some neighbouring parish.
If the family were non-conformists, however (Wesleyan or other), it may be more complicated to figure out if/how/where his birth was recorded.
http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/baptisms-non-conformist/
While I can't see any direct evidence of your Henry here, a Henry and Mary Thomas had a son Evan John baptised in 1840, and a son Mark baptised in 1842, in the Columb, St. Wesleyan Methodist Circuit (would likely cover Newquay)
According to the GRO index, the mother's maiden name was Bennick or Binnock.
Having trouble finding them on the cenuses. Mark died in Canada, looks like:

Interestingly, says he was 84 years and 8 months old and had been in Ontario for 80 years - so were the whole family in Canada by 1851?
Also that his parents were from Wales.
Another possible brother, Phillip b. 1834, married in Canada in the 1870s:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FMN4-SX1
He was born in Devon according to this.
If John here is "Evan John" this might be the family, but no Henry?
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQB3-NXV
On Freecen it appears the older children were born out of county (Devon?) as were the parents

Thank you. I will follow this up and see what happens
