Hi Kris
WOW!!!
This information is absolutely wonderful. George Mitchell had sons named John and James too.
I really appreciate you answering my query.
Thank you so much.

You are very welcome Jane just a pity about the condition of the 1841 entry, still it is a little something for you to work with. Now these Davis's No sign of them in Ilminster in either census. Do you expect that is where they are? .....Also Jane it would be helpfull if in the future you only request 1 family in 1 census per request. You can make as many requests as you like. There is always someone willing to try to find it but when a lot of things are requested in one post, generally details are missing that may help us to find them, and parts get left undone. Far better to make it for just one lookup in the post and include as much detail as you know....Thanks....Kris :D

I have very sketchy bits of info - their daughter Maria ... who married George Mitchell was born in Taunton. I found references to deaths for a James and Elizabeth Davis ... don't know if they are the right couple though.
Elizabeth DAVIS died 09 Jan 1856 aged 59 born – – – Memorial type Headstone notes Wife of James. also a daughter who died in infancy Parish Shepton Mallet (CofE)
James DAVIS died 16 May 1846 aged 53 born – – – Memorial type Headstone notes Husband of Elizabeth. also a daughter who died in infancy Parish Shepton Mallet (CofE)
I am afraid that's all I have.

OK Jane I think you are barking up the wrong alley there. I can see a James and Elizabeth in Shepton Mallet in 1841 with Children but no Maria. By 1851 she is a Widow 54 same children but no Maria......Where does Maria claim to have been born in later censuses? Im Still Looking.....Kris ???
-
I just realised that Maria born 1821 not 1841! I'm confusing myself here.... Will try that...Kris
-
Well ya never know. ;D
Maria DAVIS is the Maria Mitchell found in the 1851 census as wife of George Mitchell ... which you kindly provided .... and it does say Taunton .... which is the birthplace given on the shipping manifest.... which is also where I got her parents names. It did say her father was deceased at that time. They were in Australia by 1854. She would have been 20 in 1841.
You have given me so much to go on. I really appreciate it.

LOL realised that when you mentioned she married George. I had been looking for a 1 year old till then. Sorry I still can't see anything. Can't see a Maria Listing as 20 in Somerset. She does not appear in Illminster at this time. There are none in Taunton. Davis is such a common name so sticking to exact spelling Maria Davis there are some 15 year olds I have chased up (a 19 year old would list as 15 if the enumerator followed instruction) 2 are servants 1 has wrong father and if I use variants there are just hundreds of Mary Maria Maryanne Davis Davies etc. Sorry Just don't think I can help you with this one.
One more thought I don't suppose you have marriage licence do you? Guessing not as you mention getting her parents from Shipping manifest but marriage licence would give address at marriage. Just a chance that might help.....Kris :'(

Thanks for all the help Kris. I will remember to stick to one family when I do any posts .... I started out with the one but I tend to get carried away.
Thank you.
