Title: What ratings was ancestor in the Royal Navy?
Post by: classicgirl on Monday 02 April 18 19:06 BST (UK)
Hi

Looking at Royal Navy Records for my Hubbys Great Grandad George White b1873, he was invalided out of Pembroke 2 on 18th Sept 1914

His rating was Sto.P.O, What does this stand for?

Is there anywhere I can also look to see why he was invalided out too? he had only just rejoined at Pembroke 2 on 2nd Aug 1914 after what appears to be a 14 year gap, was he recalled for ww1?

Cheers

Carolyn  :)

Hi,

Sto. P.O. was most definitely 'Stoker Petty Officer'. See half way down page 30 on link here: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documents/records/abbreviations-in-world-war-one-medal-index-cards-rank.pdf

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David
