Title: William North of Twyford
Post by: mdb on Saturday 31 March 18 14:43 BST (UK)
I am looking for information on a William North of Twyford Leicestershire. I believe he was born in 1766 and married an Ann Whitehead in 1791. They had a son Charles in about 1809. Apart from the marriage in Leicestershire Parish Records I can find no other trace of him. The birth date comes from Family Search but they don’t give a source.
Thanks mdb

Are you sure about that YoB as I have William s/o William & Elizabeth North baptised 23 Nov 1777.

There was also a son, Robert, baptised at Twyford 20 May 1792, s/o William & Ann North, Pauper

I also have Ann North wife of William buried at Twyford 2 Dec 1808, followed by a William North marrying Elizabeth Smith 8 Oct 1810.

William North (no other information) buried 30 Oct 1812 & Elizabeth North aged 63 buried 18 Nov 1819.

A Robert North of Lowesby then married Mary Ann Gilbert 6 Mar 1820 & they settled in Twyford.

If the family found by Suzard is correct then there may be two different William & Ann Norths - William North & Ann Pollard married at Rothley 18 Sep 1797, both otp,  One of the witnesses was Mary North.

I think that Suzard has found my William North. The dates for their son Charles would tie in with mine. I have come across the other William North before but the dates for him aren’t right and my William definitely married an Ann Whitehead - I think!!!!!!
Many thanks mdb

Going back to their son Charles, you say he was born around 1809 - where was he baptised and when.  What place of birth does he give on census

From census info Charles was born about 1809 in Rhoadley Leicestershire. I have no baptismal  records for him. He married Mary ann Roberts in 1834 and moved to Nottingham where he appears on census records from 1841. He died in 1866.

How do you know who his parents are without a baptism and his marriage being before registration  :-\

He married Mary ann Roberts in 1834 and moved to Nottingham

He was already in Nottinghamshire when he married Mary Ann.  Married at Radford, Notts 24 Aug 1834.  Transcript gives residence for both as Radford.

There seems to be a lot of William Norths marrying a Ann in Leics 1800 +/- 10yrs;

Another one;
Willian NORTH of Rothley** to Ann MUSTON 26 Dec 1804, St Mary, Barkby

In answer to Rosy the names William and ann appear in some old family papers although there is no indication as to Ann’s maiden name.
The 17th April entry on Ancestry is the same Charles who was baptised in 1810. Also is it possible that the  Rhoadley entered on the 1851 census as place of birth is a mistake for  Rothley?
In which case I could be mistaken as to William’s wife and the family that Suzard found could be the right one.
Thanks for all the help.

The Marriage I found also is a possible. He was of Rothley.

And yes Rhoadley is likely Rothley.
