Hello
I am a descendant of Alfred SERLE b Kingsand 1815 (then part of Cornwall)
Is anybody else researching the SERLE name?
I have some "possibles" but would be interested in information on any of the following, here is what i have:
William Serle b btw 1785 & 1788 Devonport d 8th Aug 1862
1841 census shows cordwainer living in Marlborough Street, Morice, Stoke Damerel.
William Serle & Sarah Penson living in Stoke Damerel
William Serle baptised 22 Jul 1753 Stoke Damerel. (Parents William Serle & Thomasin ??)
Married 9th Jan 1781 Stoke Damerel parish Church.
Any help or info much appreciated.
Regards,

Have you checked surname interest board?

Hi
I had done a general search but there does not seem to be anyone looking for SERLE's at the the moment.

There is this baptism:
Alfred SERLE born 5 Dec 1815, bap 6 Jun 1825 at Morice St Wesleyan, Devonport. Parents William and Mary. William was a shoemaker.

I know the census says born in Kingsand, but could have moved to Stoke in the intervening 10 years.

Do you know who the Henry BEAVOR (nephew) is that is with Alfred in the 1861 census? (As this may help in determining the parents)
Modified to add: I see his mother's maiden name was PAINE, so probably Eliza's nephew, not Alfred's.

Surname board has one entry for Serle from Devon, you might also check Searle.

There is a William SERLE appears in the 1851 at Bakers Place, Stoke Damerel
William Serle 42 Devonport (cordwainer)
Louisa Serle 36
Harriet Serle 1
HO107/1881 / 393
This William SERLE (boot and shoemaker) is also in the 1861, with presumably father William
William Serle 50 Devonport (boot and shoemaker)
Louisa Serle 48
William Serle 75 (retired shoemaker)
RG9/1449/4 pg 4
Modified to add: Father - William probably at Mount St, Stoke Damerel in 1851:
William Serle 62 Devonport (cordwainer)
George Serle 29 (labourer)
1881/242 Page 29

There is a Mary SERLE buried Sep 5 1847 at Plymouth aged 48. A bit young but possibly Alfred's mother?
(William SERLE married Louisa HICKS in Dec qtr 1847 Stoke Demerel (9/572).)
The William SERLE born c1781 at Malborough St in the 1841 is with Grace SERLE, also born c 1781. I think it says "labourer"
