Title: Thomas Henry Oldfield Rodgers
Post by: ChalmersB on Thursday 29 March 18 09:04 BST (UK)
I am trying to confirm the parents of Thomas Henry Oldfield Rodgers 1890 to 1967, born in Rawmarsh.

On my nans birth certificate it's states her name is Patricia Oldfield Rodgers also born in Rawmarsh. Her father is Thomas Henry Oldfield Rodgers born 1890 and I'm looking to confirm whether or not his parents were Thomas Oldfield (links to Staffordshire)  and Kate Rodgers (possibly born Toxteth).

I'm a bit confused now and sure I haven't got some facts correct.

I share your instinct that he is likely to be the Thomas “Oldfield” with his family in Rawmarsh in 1891/1901.

It looks as though the parents married at St Thomas Brightside, Sheffield in 1886.  His name was entered at the time as Thomas Henry Rodgers, but according to a FreeBMD postem it was amended in the parish register to Thomas Henry Oldfield years later, on 4 August 1930.

According to another postem the bride’s name was amended at the same time, from Kate Houlston to Catherine Holton.

Original GRO reference: Sep qtr 1886 Sheffield 9c 405

Amended GRO reference: Sep qtr 1886 Sheffield 9c 404b

Thanks for your help. I wonder what the significance of the name change is.
