Hi
Hoping someone can explain what these 2 records mean.
They are both regarding the marriage of Charles Jones and Eliza Willmott in 1845 however they have different dates.
Thankyou

Hi Denipam
If you go back to ancestry and repeat the search, you will note that the event has 2 different dates.
The earlier date is taken from the Banns register, the later date is the actual date of the marriage.
If you also 'View Record' you will note the reference numbers are different
p85/mry1/535
p85/mry1/419
If you got to the LMA London Generations page and open the Lambeth catalogue pages you will find those numbers there on pages 95 and 106 which confirms the sources as the Banns Register and Marriage register

Thanks Dawnsh
How did marriage Banns work?
I have a lot to learn.
Also Thanks Moderator for your comment. I will remember next time to use a portion of the doc not the whole.

Hi Denipam
The Banns of Marriage are published in a church on 3 consecutive Sundays prior to a marriage and the process gives the congregation the opportunity to oppose the marriage for legal reasons such as already being married or being too closely related.
searching the internet for a concise explanation leads here
