Looking for information on the family of Rev. William S. RANOUS (abt. 1811-1894) who was married to Mary CARDIN. According to the 1881 census, William is living in Brock, Ontario North, Ontario. I have also been able to determine that he was a Methodist Episcopal minister in Manilla. His obituary in the Canadian Post (Lindsay) (8 Nov 1894) suggests that he was one of the first inhabitants and spent many years of service in Methodist churches in this district. However, I have not been able to locate further information or census records.

Thanks RunKitty!
Interesting that the 1871 census suggests that he was born abt. 1821 whereas the 1881 census suggests abt. 1811.

Hello,
I see the transcription of the 1871 census says he is 50, but the age on the actual image looks to me like 60.... so still birth year of 1811. :)

In the 1840s, he was in Prince Edward County in eastern Ontario:

May have had a brother, Phillip, who also marries in Marysburgh in 1842. There are other Ranous in Marysburgh as early as 1815. By 1851/52, Philip is in Whitby Township, Ontario County:
