Hi, I'v got some photos of ancestors. I know that these are definitely either my Great Grandmother and Great great Grandmother or my Great Grandmother. The younger lady is I think my great grandmother Annie Lightbody (nee Knox) - who was born in 1873 and would have been around late 30s early 40s in 1910s. Her costume and hair looks Edwardian I think. The older woman is I believe Margaret Graham (the younger woman's mother) who was born in 1843. The costume of the old lady and hair style seems quite severe and victorian. They lived in the borders moving from Dumfriesshire into Cumberland and back several times. My father thinks the old lady is Annie Lightbody - I can't see that she would be wearing what to me look like long victorian clothes in old age - and her mother Margaret Graham would have been 60 in the 1900s. your opinions/help on this would be appreciated.

They are all Edwardian. The first could be v.late Victorian at a pinch.
The last one probably no later than 1908 as this pigeon-breast blouse fell out of fashion around that time.

Photos 1 and 2 look to be the same lady taken about 10 years apart.

Thank you jim1, that's very helpful indeed. I reckon I am correct in my surmise that the older lady is the mother of the younger and the younger is my great grandmother and the other is her mother. I love the Edwardian style, especially the hair, I agree Treetotal - the one is actually a miniature painting but it was very difficult to scan effectively, so I've not done the best job with it. Do you think anyone on here would be able to colour the photo of the younger woman as I believe she had proper red hair, even with the black and white it appears that way to me. ;D

It's a lovely photo and would colour really well if you could scan it at a resolution of 300dpi and in colour mode that would bring give best results, her hair would be a pale shade but not necessarily red...she could be fair as her eyes appear to be pale. You will need to rename the file and have a file size of just below 500kbs.

Hi Treetotal, the photo is already a scan of a photo as my father has the photos and I only have the scanned images. I may be able to get another one done at some point so can try again then. Many thanks
