Title: electoral registers
Post by: ray b on Sunday 18 March 18 09:06 GMT (UK)
Good morning all
Does anyone know if you can search the registers that are housed in lincs archives, by village or street I have looked at them once but used an ancestors name this time I would like to know who lived in a terrace of houses built for mineworkers. From the thirties until they were demolished.
many thanks
rayb

I have not used the ones in the archives, but I have used the ones in Grimsby Library and providing you know the name of the street, there is an index in the front which gives you the ward.   Then searching the ward in Alphabetically order you can find the street.

Hi rayb

Itterbysearch has answered but it is a case of one size doesn't fit all.

Firstly you do need an address as your starting point.

Then you need to work out the constituency but the boundaries have changed several times over the years.

Then you need to identify the ward.

Again, these change.

If you are lucky, you may have a street index at the front of the register but from experience, those indexes are few and far between.

Finally, if you are looking at a very small village, The eligible voters may be listed alphabetically rather than by street, this really depends on the size of the village.

What street address are you interested in and when were they demolished?

Hello dawnsh
It is the village of claxby between market rasen and caistor lincs it was a terrace of 20 2ups I lived for a short period of time at no 15 as a child there is now some interest in trying to fill in the occupants after the ironstone mine closed uNtil they were demolished in the mid 70s

Claxby seems to be in the constitiuency of Gainsborough.

As the village seems only to be one or two streets on a current map, the register may be compiled alphabetically by name.

If I get the chance to look at the 1937 register on microfilm at the British Library, I'll try to find out what ward you might be looking for.
