Hiya Geraldine,

There was one MvGurk in Dublin in 1848-51 when  Griffith's Valuation  (http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php) took place throughout the City and county.
Thomas McGurk, Stephen's Lane, St. Marks, Dublin

I looked at  Irish Ancestors Surname Search  (http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/surname) to see what they had to offer and during the period 1848 - 61 both surnames appeared in only one parish in Ireland and that was Belfast City.
