I have a few Cox in my family. Joseph Cox married Lucretia Pitfield (my relative) in Symondsbury Dorset 1816. I have no info on this person at all. Also a Tamar Cox married Edward Pitfiled (my relative). She was born abt 1835 and died in 1921. She was from Bradford Peverell, Dorset. I know nothing else about her either. I also have a Thomas Cox married to another relative of mine Anne Pitfield and they married in 1777 in Symondsbury too. My Pitfield family really seemed to like the Cox family haha.  Would be great to find out about there familys. Please could you let me know if any of them are in your tree. With kind regards Donna

Hi Kim, Hi again, Donna,

Kim, welcome to RootsChat !

If you don't already know the Dorset Online Parisch Clerks site at www.dorset-opc.com  then try it and see.  They have a LARGE database and a good search engine.

e.g.
hounsel gives 24 hits
childs gives 82 hits

but if you know a parish, or any relationships, then you can try combinations,  using
the "Find ALL words" search

e.g.
"hounsel corscombe" gives 6 hits  etc, etc

This page should be interesting:  http://www.dorset-opc.com/Corscombe.htm
and maybe this one, too: http://www.dorset-opc.com/1891Evershot.htm (the 1891 Evershot census)

Good luck

Donna,

Hi Kim, Yes i have Cox in my family i have a Hannah Pitfield my relative married to ? Cox back in the late 1600's early 1700's Dorset. I need to find time to check that out and see who he is.
I also have Joseph Cox married to Lucretia Pitfield my relative  in 1816 Symondsbury.
 I have a Mary Cox from Sutton, Scotney, Hants married to my relative Harry Bird Sothcott in Hampshire in 1893.
I have Tamar Cox born abt 1835 married to my relative Edward Pitfield. Tamar is from Bradford Peverell, Dorset.

I think my family liked the Cox family's.
I know nothing else about these Cox. Would be interesting to see if there are any links anywhere with your Cox family.

All  the Cox i have seem to be unrelated to each other at the moment.
Look forward to hearing from you.
With kind regards Donna

I think we are looking at the same families.

My ancestor was Mary Childs b 1823, daughter of Henry Childs b 1796 son of Josiah Childs and Elizabeth Park c1771
Elizabeth was the daughter of Henry Park and Joan Hounsel

and Henry in his turn being the son of Nicholas Park and Elizabeth Cox.

All from either Corscombe or Evershot   ;D

Broadwinsor is a short distance from Lyme Regis, and was home to the Drimpton farmer William Aplin. Then there was
the James APLIN - Mary HOUNSELL marriage about 1830

•   Milbro,
baptised 26 May 1847;
Milbro COX; son of Richard & Matilda Cox (Sail Maker) (ST MARY'S)
•   Matilda,1849?
•   Ann, 1851?
•   John (Master Mariner,went to New Zealand),
Baptised 14 Nov 1851;
 John COX son of Richard & Matilda Cox (Sail Maker) (Abode - Weymouth) (ST MARY'S)
•   Elizabeth, ??
•   Charles
Baptised 28 May 1856;
Charles COX son of Richard & Matilda Cox (Sail Maker)  (ST MARY'S)
•   Alfred(Master Mariner).
Baptised 23 Mar 1858;
Alfred COX son of Richard & Matilda Cox (Sail Maker) (ST MARY'S)

ANY info on these people would be awesome!
