Title: LAUREL COTTAGES - PUBLOW/PENSFORD
Post by: stevebuckley on Sunday 11 March 18 10:17 GMT (UK)
Hello, everyone

I'm hoping to discover more about LAUREL COTTAGE that appears on 19th century censuses. It appears to be a school of some kind but I'm struggling to get more detail. I'm wondering if it was a workhouse union school (Clutton?) as the Union (for its time) seems to have been one of the more'liberal'. I'm interested because individuals in my HARRIS family seem to have links here - both as teachers and borders. Thank you.

In 1881 Henry Fear who was running the school is described as a Schoolmaster (Commercial)

Also if you search Google Books for Laurel Cottage Academy, Timsbury you should find  a very small extract re someone who lived in Timsbury, Somersetshire, in 1871 and "had the ordinary educational advantages of the vicinity, attending Laurel Cottage Academy, a private school"
