Hello out there. I've been able to trace back my Bartley family line to 1810 and the birth of Thomas Bartley, whose father's first name was Francis. I've been unable to go back any further and was wondering if anyone else shared the same ancestor/s.

Thanks for that. I do have the information regarding Thomas’s birth certificate. What is a mystery though is that I can find no other trace of Francis Bartley; no, birth certificate, marriage certificate or death certificate, just the fact that he had a son. I have a hunch that Francis was perhaps born in Ulster, but can find no trace there either. Finding Francis is thus my aim!

I posted the birth as it gave more information on Thomas's parents including Francis's occupation and their abode at the time of the baptism.
Do you have a marriage for them :-\

No birth certificate, marriage certificate or death certificate, just the fact that he had a son and lived at Cook St. with his wife and was a coachman. I have a hunch that Francis was perhaps born in Ulster, but can find no trace of him there either.

Did you see that there is a burial at St John's on 29 February 1816 for a Francis Barckley, aged 2, son of Francis & Mary, abode Crosshall Street, occupation coachman?
-
No, I didn't. Thanks. 'Bartley', like many names, could be misspelt. If you find anything about where he was born or died, I'd be grateful.

Following on from ShaunJ, I changed the search and left off the surname, have found this for a Francis
Barkley in case it leads somewhere
Liverpool Mercury 22 December 1826

Brilliant! Now would this Francis Barkley with a 'k' be the the father of Thomas Bartley with a 't' who married Margaret Plumb on 9th March 1834? Thanks for the help.

No, regarding Thomas Bartley who married Margaret Plumb, I have two paternal leads so far, Francis Barkley and Samuel Bartley. Francis Barkley has the name Bartley when he declares his son's birth in 1810. Samuel Bartley had a son Thomas born in 1807. A Thomas Bartley died in Preston in 1835 aged 27. Who was he? I imagine when Thomas junior married Margaret both his parents were already dead.

I think you may be on to something there, Willsy !

Elizabeth Barkley married John Williams at St Peter's on 16 January 1811. He was a coach driver. Witnesses were Francis Barkley and Catherine Thomas.
If Francis Barkley was aged 37 in mid-December 1826 he must have been born between mid-December 1788 and mid-December 1789. To be aged 21 at the time of the 18 October 1809 marriage he would have had to have been born before 18 October 1788. The dates don't quite coincide.
Possible birth in Oswestry in 1789 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J7L6-Q4M
With a sister Elizabeth two years older https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N5SB-8X2

The marriage caught my eye after what rosie99 had posted; might be worth chasing the marriage Lic.
-
The marriage licence is on Findmypast under Cheshire Marriage Licences and Allegations. The free index shows Francis as Francis Barkley.

The 1809 marriage license is on Familysearch

Thanks for all the help. Really I'd like to know who was the Thomas Bartley that married Margaret Plumb in 1834and where and when did he die. Did he die in Preston in 1835? The child of that marriage was Thomas Bartley Plumb, who is a direct ancestor of mine. Going up to the next generation is problematic. Thomas the father must have died shortly after his wedding, as in 1837 Margaret got remarried to Thomas Kent. One possible link could be the Francis Barkley/Bartley who married Mary Whiting and had Thomas Bartley in 1810. Another could be Samuel Bartley, married to Margaret Rigby who had a Thomas Bartley born in 1807.
