Title: Devon Artillery Militia
Post by: Setab on Monday 29 January 18 19:24 GMT (UK)
Trying to trace an Albert Brown born1836 Hull, who joined the Devon artillery Militia as a boy 1847-1851.
Wikipedia states that records were destroyed for this period. Can find no records under the  1851 census for his residence. He later married a Rachel Bailey from Burlescombe.

The 1851 census for Burlescombe has Albert Brown age illegible (transcribed as 15) born Hessle Yorkshire, a horse driver. Mother is Ann Horner who may well be the Ann Brown who married Samuel Horner in 1839.  Rachel Bailey is four pages away in the census.  As a militia man, he would have served only part time hence his civilian occupation on the census.
