Wondering if anyone can help me....
I have a William Hazelton on my tree, born around 1834.
The 1851 census shows him in Foley, Stoke on Trent. It says his birth was Raitsbridge, surrey but I can't find this place?
I found a baptism 22feb 1835 at St Georges, Hanover square. I'm wondering if this could fit with his birth?
Does anyone know the locations that could help?
Thanks

Does the christening match with the father's name on the marriage?

(think I have the right family!)

If it’s the same William Hazleton born c.1835 living in Stoke-on-Trent on the 1861/71/91 and 1901 censuses, he always gives his place of birth as London, Middlesex.

In that case, I wonder if it should have been Knightsbridge, rather than Raitsbridge? Perhaps someone misread K as R, and it was then wrongly entered as Surrey instead of Middlesex? Knightsbridge would be compatible with St George, Hanover Square, as suggested above.

His guys, thanks for you replies on this. I was on chat last night and we decided that it was the correct baptism. Williams father John was listed as a soldier on the baptism papers.
Someone managed to find his military listing and his birth back in Staffordshire. I'm going to do more research into John and Harriet, hoping to find a wedding for them.
It's great how willing people are to help and support. Thanks for you contributions.

Knightsbridge might be a good call. Someone found John on the 1941 census at Regents Park. (sorry I can't name the people who helped me. I have all the info copied and pasted ready to revisit though!)
I'm heading down to London in a few weeks, I might give St George's a visit.

Do you know who William married?
~ EDIT had just noticed MaureeninNY's post re:marriage after posting ::)
Was his occupation an apprentice to a blacksmith in 1851?
The reason I ask is there's this marriage entry
Mar 1858 Stoke on T. 6b 223
William Haselton Stoke on T. 6b 223
Female name on same page
Jane Martin
Staffordshire BMD gives their marriage at St Peter Stoke
Also give mmn Martin for children mentioned there are these entries
1866 Louisa mmn Martin died 1866 age 0
1873 Henry mmn Martin died 1873 age 0
there's a William Hazelton born London & Jane on 1881 census with children, his occupation is a blacksmith, they have a son William born c1859 Fenton
birth entries of their children on census from GRO indexes
HAZLETON, GEORGE mmn MARTIN
1864 D Quarter in STOKE UPON TRENT Volume 06B Page 193
HAZLETON, MARY ELIZABETH mnn MARTON
1870 M Quarter in STOKE UPON TRENT Volume 06B Page 233
HAZELTON, JANE mmn MARTIN
1874 M Quarter in STOKE UPON TRENT Volume 06B Page 272
then there's this family on 1861 census surname is HAZELDINE and wife is Ann ???
but the surname and birth entry of both children appear to be HAZELTON/MARTIN
William Hazledine 25 Greenwich, whitesmith journeyman
Ann Hazledine 24
William Hazledine 3
John Hazledine 1
All others born Fenton

HAZELTON, WILLIAM mmn MARTIN

HAZELTON, JOHN mnn MARTIN

In case it wasn't mentioned in the chat room, the Life Guards were barracked in rotation at Windsor, Regents Park and Knightsbridge.
