Title: Hertford Cemetary
Post by: De grijze on Tuesday 02 January 18 09:43 GMT (UK)
 :) Hi there,
First of all a happy New Year!
Is there anyone who could help me?
I'm doing research about the fallen airmen in my native town Kaggevinne.
I'm even writing a book about this event. It's my second.
I found out that somewhere in the cemetery of Hertford, on the grave of a family named Garrod, there must be a plaque commemorating Ralph's Garrod’s death on the family grave, and it refers to him being buried in Kaggevinne (Belgium). Is there anyone of yours who can take some picture of this memorial plaque? On a high resolution and of a good quality? It is to illustrate my book with. I mentioned your name there.  Give credit where credit is due.

Presumably his parents marriage which would tie in with the 1917 death in Hertford registration district of  Florence E Garrod age  43  :)

Marriage June qtr 1905
GARROD    Arthur Frederick
ROW    Florence Elizabeth
Hertford    3a   1205
The marriage was at St Andrews, Hertford

I would think that all we need now is the location Of Florences grave  :)

It may be worth contacting the church where his parents married to see if his mother is buried there.  You really need a location for the grave before asking someone to take a photo.  Sorry I am not local or I would go and look for you.

As far as I can see, they would be married at St Leonard's, Shoreditch.
But his cousin told me in a letter that they were buried in the cemetery of Hertford.

"The church holds a record by name of people buried in St Andrew’s Cemetery, in most cases with plot numbers, but there is not, for most of the Cemetery, any plan linking them with an area on the ground. Nor does the Town Council have a plot map for the St Andrew’s Cemetery. However, Cemetery staff are often able to identify monuments."

I visit occasionally, as it's a nice town.  Will get back to you if I'm able to help further, unless anyone else pitches in first.

It looks like he is memorialised inside St Andrew's church as well:
