Info I have is that he born in 1801, son of Elizabeth Donisthorpe & Thomas Thompson. Married Anne Edwards, 2 children Joseph D born 1829 b.? and Anne Jane born London c.1844. 30.11.1848 Brit newspaper states insolvent. In Australia by about 1852. No proof documentation. (I believe also his George campaigned for abolition of slavery)
Can anyone either confirm or expand on the UK life of Elizabeth & Thomas please?

Thank you for confirming/updating my information. Were you able to check for 1841 and 1851 census for Joseph, by any chance? I haven't been able to find his name on a passenger list coming into Australia, and it would narrow the search if I knew he was still in UK in 1851. :)

Census is free to search on FamilySearch:
1841
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQJ8-H3M
The original shows Joseph's occupation as J(ourneyman) Whitesmith and he is not born in county.
1851
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SG52-7MZ
I cannot find an appropriate birth registration for Ann Jane.

If Joseph paid his own fare then you would probably just be looking for a Mr and Mrs THOMPSON. Occupations are not always given for unassisted immigrants but that may be the only way to find him on passenger lists.
