Ok. Been a while since i have been on here. :/
I am starting my partners tree and running into roadblocks already.
The only info i have is
father:
Ari Jouko Tapani Repo
Birth 27 JUN 1957 Finland
Death 31 DEC 2009 • Adelaide, South Australia, Australia
Parents
Father
Pentti Veikko Armas Repo
Birth 21 MAR 1935 Finland
Death Unknown South Australia
Mother
Kaija Kahrina (nee Forsander)
Birth 17 JUL 1935 ? Finland
Death Living
I have since found shipping records in 1959 from London to Australia and that part is fine i can search this end easier.
I am having trouble in finding when/how they got to London?
How do i research Finland records in English...LOL
Being that my partner was estranged from his father and that side of the family i have very little to go on, especially as his father passed in 2009.
Any starting pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sheryl and welcome to RootsChat.
The dates you have are too new for any parish database search unfortunately.
I took a look here for you in the passenger records database: http://maine.utu.fi/emregfree/ml_engsearch2.asp and there is a Pentti Repo in the database. It could be him but the date is missing. To see the record you have to be a member but searching is free and there is no guarantee there will be more info but a parish could be recorded.
I have a membership here if you want more help: http://www.sukuhistoria.fi/sshy/index_eng.htm

There is also a Kaija Repo in the same passenger list database without a year too. So this could be your family.

the date says 99.99.9999 and that is all i get....LOL

There's also this site for parish records, but I don't think they have much after about 1900.

Yes.
But if you want to pay for a membership and take a chance you may get more info. This I believe is the only way at the moment to try to get further.

The surname Repo is most probably taken from a farm name. The Finnish did this a lot even changing their surname everytime they moved sometimes making it very difficult to trace families. There were unfortunately a number of Repo farms in Finland back then.

As said above, there are a lot of people named Repo, all over Finland. The name means Fox.
You might have more luck with Forsander. This was a Swedish name - a minority in Finland. Where you will find hundreds named Repo in the link I posted above, there are only a few named Forsander.
In the Hiski records I linked above, there's nothing after 1910. So you'd have to get at least one generation further back.
