Title: Trying to find Annie Dunn
Post by: J.D. on Wednesday 27 December 17 22:41 GMT (UK)
Annie was born Annie Clancey 1904 in Manchester. No father on the birth cert.
Her mother Rose Ann Clancey married Thomas Shatliffe soon after and Annie took his surname.
In 1921 she married Albert Winters who sadly died soon after. In 1930 she married my grandfather Francis Dunn.
My grandfather was born 1903, there is a Francis Dunn in Southern cemetery he is on his own. His marker says he was born 1902. Not sure but he could be my grandfather.
I have found them both in the 1939 register residing on Cheetham Hill Road Manchester.
Does anyone know what happened to Annie after 1939.
Thanks
John

I have the death cert cert for Francis Dunn, the one in Southern cemetery. It does say that he was 50 years old when he died in 1952. My grandfather Francis Dunn was born Sept 1903, so they birth dates don't match.
The problem I have with the Francis Dunn in Southern cemetery is that prior to his death he lived just around the corner from my father, his son? When I say around the corner I am talking three minutes. His ex wife? my grandmother was no more than five minutes away. No mention of this Francis Dunn who lived around the corner was ever made by my family. The other problem I have with Francis in Southern is that his wife's name is Hannah, not Annie (similar sounding names) There is another Francis Dunn who was born Manchester 1902, he does not appear to be related.
So my problem is which Francis Dunn is in Southern. Dates close together can never be relied on.
Solidrock
Annie Dunn was born Annie Shatliff  on the 29th June 1904. If I can find some info on Annie it may shed some light on who is actually in Southern, my grandfather or the other Francis Dunn.

Thanks
John

Are you saying that Francis & Annie separated after their appearance on the 1939 register  :-\

Yes Daisy Bank Road was on the corner of Plymouth Grove. My school was on Daisy Bank Road. I lived just around the corner on Richmond Grove. When I went to school I would walk down Plymouth Grove and turn right into Daisy Bank Road. 263 Plymouth Grove was on the opposite corner across the road.
Margi
The father of Francis was also called Francis. He died 1st April 1950. He lived in and was buried in Bolton.
Heywood.
Yes this is my grandfather. As you say he was born 1903. So perhaps the Francis who lived on Plymouth Grove was unrelated and him being minutes away from where I lived with my parents was just a coincidence.
The Francis Dunn who lived at 263 Plymouth Grove is the one in Southern cemetery. The writing on his stone:
In memory of
Francis Dunn
Died 19th Sep 1950
Aged 52 Years.
So if the Francis is in Southern is unrelated then where is my grandfather (buried) and his wife Annie. Ive been against this brick wall for the past two years.
Thanks
John

I have found them both in the 1939 register residing on Cheetham Hill Road Manchester.

As you've seen it, I can say that Annie's entry is mainly obscured by an errant redaction bar.
But the transcript gives her a d-o-b of 16 June 1904. The others tally with the image.
It is different though to 29th June which you gave yesterday (not saying that's not the correct one!)

Hi Rosie
Yes I cannot find them after 1939.
John.

John,
Sorry to ask- are there no family stories about Francis or Annie after 1939?  No contact with them?
I realise you may not remember but sometimes stories are passed on. For example if Francis snr died in 1950, you would imagine there could have been a sighting at the funeral etc.
Was there a death announcement for Francis snr in the local paper? That might mention his children.

I have a copy of Annie's birth cert Born Annie on the 29th June 1904 to Rose Ann Clancey.
The 1939 register has my fathers birth date as August 1923, he was born March 1923.
I think I would be a lot further on with this family history if people would give the correct dates and not guess.
Rosie
Do you know what papers were doing the rounds in 1950 Bolton.
Thanks
John.

Annie Dunn was born Annie Shatliff  on the 29th June 1904.

She was registered born as Annie CLANCEY  per:

Annie was born Annie Clancey 1904 in Manchester. No father on the birth cert.
Her mother Rose Ann Clancey married Thomas Shatliffe soon after and Annie took his surname.

Francis Dunn in Southern cemetery is that prior to his death he lived just around the corner from my father, his son? When I say around the corner I am talking three minutes. His ex wife? my grandmother was no more than five minutes away.

Are you saying that Francis & Annie separated after their appearance on the 1939 register  :-\

Hi Rosie
Yes I cannot find them after 1939.
John.

This needs to be clarified….. Was there any question as far as you know that Francis and Annie went their separate ways after the 1939 register?

Was your father the only child in the family? What other address' are associated with your father that may have been a family address - for example on a marriage record for him or a sibling (if there were any siblings)?   Was  Francis listed as deceased on his (your father's) marriage record?

Cheers

And can you confirm, that this is your grandfather's exact date of birth and his parents?
Ada's maiden name being CLAYTON - married 1897)?

Going by JD’s information, this would seem to be Francis.

Born 5th September 1903 baptised 16th September 1903, St James Collyhurst.
Parents Francis and Ada Dunn.
