Looking to trace the birthplace of my great grandfather.
The facts I have are as follows:
Name: William O Connell - Bill
Birth: somewhere in Mallow date unknown. Came across a record where a possible match recorded a birth place of 'ballinR??? Near Mallow. I have searched townlands and census and can't find a place starting with ballinr.
Father was also William O Connell
Mother's name unknown.
Occupation: School teacher in the British Army
Rank: Staff quarter master
The following is a timeline of where he lived based on information such as marriage, births of children and family documents.
Sometime before 1905 - Newry, Co. Down
1905 - Old Youghal Road Cork or thereabouts in the vicinity of Collins Barracks/Dillons Cross
1906 - Dublin
1908 - 1909/10 - Ballyhooley Road, Dillons Cross, Cork.
1911 - 1919 approx - Pretoria, South Africa
1919 - 1920 - Ireland likely back in Cork
1920 - 1923 - Stirling, Scotland
1923 - 1943 St. JOHNS terrace Dillons Cross
1943 death buried st. Finbarrs cemetery
Wife - Nellie Hutchinson from Newry, Co. DOWN, got married 1905 St. JOSEPHS church, Mayfield
Children:
1906 - William Robert
1908 - George James

Possibility? William O'Connell, mother Ellen, age 28 (this townland is south west of Mallow)-

However- www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Cork/Clonmoyle/Clonmoyle_East/1123529
So, maybe not him?
There is a townland called Ballinree in Mallow Poor Law Union/civil registration district (Doneraile civil parish)
Added- just found previous topic :-\

I just did a Google search and a census search o ballinree. The only thing I can find is the name on the Mallow poor law union record. Any idea where I could look for records for ballinree?
Also the death record is very interesting i didn't have an age for him before now so at least now I know his date of birth.
I read something on a post here saying people in the RIC gave occupations such as farmer on documents. I wonder would it be the same for people in the British Army or else maybe family folklore is incorrect and he was a clerk and not a schoolteacher in the British Army.
Thanks a million for ye're quick replies. :) :)
