If he married in 1872 he must have been born before 1860, as he would not have been old enough to marry at the age of 11 or 12!

Go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, invest in a few credits and use some of them to download a copy of his marriage certificate. This will tell you his age on the date of marriage and the full names of both his and his wife's parents, including their mothers' maiden surnames.

According to the 1881 census in Rutherglen  Robert was born in 1853 in Co Tyrone, Ireland. You can download his marriage certificate from Scotlandspeople for £1.50 and that should name his parents.

No. It has never been possible to view all the originals of the Scottish census on Ancestry or any other web site than Scotland's People.

Further to my earlier post I have rechecked my sources and had a wee sojourn in Scotlands People. Margaret Tweedie born December 8th,1853 in Walston. was not the wife of Robert Hunter. Found her birth and parents in the Walston OPR's that confirmed my original post, different parents from the ones named on her marriage certificate to Robert Hunter.
