I am trying to find the parents of RBT Wilson, born in or around Edinburgh on 12th February 1935. I am trying to gather information on his parents, Alexander Logan Wilson, and Marion Wilson. I can find nothing at all on them, so, any information would be most appreciated.

Hi
Thank you for your PM, I will reply on here so that others can see what is being discussed.
The birth registration index is available at https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp
This is where I clarified that Alexander Logan Wilson's mothers maiden name was Logan. I previously found the record on freebmd https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
The army records are available on both Ancestry and FindMyPast.
The probate index for 1950 has Alexander Logan Wilson of 32 Station Road, West Wickham, Kent who died 2 Mar 1950 - Probate to Clare Marion Warden Wilson (widow)
https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills Freebmd has his age at death as 54.
Free search on 1939 register has Alexander L born 1895, Clara M W Wilson bn 1897 and one closed record -Beckenham MB

Frank could you please post your replies on this post and not by PM so others can see what you are saying. ;)
Your last PM states I have the wrong person. Does the person researching this man have his birth certificate if so could they give full details regarding the parents.

Re: RBT Wilson. Looking to find his parents, and seems Alexander Logan Wilson may have used the name Alexander Logan, as he was an army deserter, according to family memory. He was born in 1891 in Glasgow, and was known to have lived at 101 Shettleston Road. Any help would be most appreciated
-
To progress with this you really need the details from R B T W's birth certificate so that you have his mothers full names ;)
Scotlands people does not have an Alexander Logan Wilson that 'fits' on their online BMD indexes
-
Will try to find these details. Alexander Logan may have been his original name, apparently changed it to Wilson when he deserted from the army. Can find a few "fits", but nothing definite so far. I am trying to get access to the birth certificate just now. All very odd

Are the people in your opening post (born 1935) still alive?
Please remember we have a 'no living people' policy here.

Sorry could not reply earlier, Dawn, a bit of a family emergency. My enquiry was about Alexander Logan/Wilson, not about his living family. is that an acceptable query on here? I really was not aware of any restrictions ,so, apologise if my enquiry does not fit the remit of this forum

Your topic title and opening post specifically include the names of a potentially living person.
I have amended all the posts accordingly.

Given that RBT Wilson was still in Prestonpans at the time of his marriage, it would appear that the family lived there for an extended period.I thought therefore that the following death might be of relevance. It is for an Alexander Wilson who died in Prestonpans in 1963 age 71 ( giving a year of birth around 1891) and, as you can see, his wife was called Marion Howie Wilson
Alexander Wilson married Marion Wilson in 1917 in Prestonpans. Marriage certificate confirms parents for Alexander as William Wilson and Agnes Harrison. Marions parents are Henry Wilson and Jessie Wilson nee Howie. The family can be found in Prestonpans in 1901 and this shows that Marion was born in Cowdenbeath ( there is a matching birth in Beath). The marriage certificate gives an address in Shettleston for Alexander and indicates he was a soldier in the Kings Own Scottish Borderers.
Still struggling to find any more information on William Wilson and Agnes Harrison though there is a possible marriage in Kirkliston in 1887.

Only likely death I can find for an Agnes Harrison or Wilson is for Agnes Lockie Wilson who died in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire in 1941 age 74 ( also listed as Agnes Lockei Harrison on same reg number). Agnes Lockie Harrison was born in Kirkliston, West Lothian in 1866 and is probably the Agnes Harrison who married William Wilson in Kirkliston in 1887. The family are in Shotts, Lanarkshire in 1901 and among the children is a son Alexander age 9 ( so born around 1891) born Newbridge, West Lothian. Probable matching birth on SP - Alexander Wilson in Kirkliston in 1891.

Thanks so much, Isobel, this looks really promising. Can you tell me where you found the certificates, please. They seem to be eluding me.

Thanks Isobelw, at least now we know we aren't looking for an Alexander with middle name Logan ;D
