Title: Kilmacolm??? John Scott about 1806
Post by: madhu on Thursday 16 November 17 17:59 GMT (UK)
I am researching John Scott who enlisted in the Scots Fusillier Guards in Glasgow in 1825 aged 19. All other records are from London where he lived. It says he was a tinsmith by trade and was born in the parish of Kilmacolm or near the town of, in the county of Renfrew. I cannot find a definite birth for him. I have looked on Scotlands People. Are there records of apprenticeships ? Or can someone make a suggestion where to search?
Thank you

Greenock and Kilmacolm are both parishes in Renfrewshire. I would have expected the birth/ baptism to have been recorded in Kilmacolm if that is where it took place. This is well before the start of civil registration so the birth may simply not have been recorded. There are a few John Scott baptisms in Kilmacolm recorded in the Scotlandspeople OPR index, but none around 1806 ( nearest are a couple of baptisms in 1802).
