I have a Robert Imray in my family who was born 4 June 1794 in Aberdeen. He served in Ceylon as a Quatermaster and died there in 1853. Can anyone help me please in locating a baptism for Robert.
Many thanks :)

Welcome to Rootschat
There are 2 on Family Search but both are in Kincardineshire - 1793 and 1796
https://familysearch.org/search
The only one anywhere near 1794 on Scotlands People is 1786 - parents John Imray and Celia Donald

CaroleW, thank you for your welcome and taking time to look for Robert. Robert's military records state 4 June 1794 as his dob and Aberdeen as his place of birth, so I'm a little perplexed as to who he is :)
-
Do you know who he married and where? Did he have any children?
-
Robert married in Ceylon in 1825 to Sarah Ingram. They had several children born in Ceylon, but they have been difficult to trace.

I had hoped to find some family member on the 1841 Scottish census but that's not going to be possible. Unless any of the the family returned to Scotland/England after he died in which case they would only be on the 1861 onwards
I have checked the English and Scottish 1861 and there are no Imray's born overseas. Did he have a son Alexander born about 1829?. There is an Alexander Imrey aged 32 - birthplace unknown - boarder in Suffolk - occupation groom in racing stable
The 1871 has an Arthur J Imray born Sri Lanka 1858 at a boarding school in London who may be a grandson of Robert

CaroleW, thank you for all your hard work - much appreciated :). Arthur J Imray is a family member - he died in Ceylon. Not sure that Alexander is, but I will explore that lead a little further.

I have Imrays in my family, but very often they are transcribed in records as Imrie; it may be worth checking under that spelling.
-
Thank you lydiaann - I will check that spelling and see if it yields any results :)
-
Have you had any luck in tracing Robert Imray? I've been searching for a long while and hit a brick wall :)

I have only a couple of Imrays/Imries in my tree, born in Kirkcaldy, Fife. One, Euphemia, moved to Banchory-Ternan - probably before her marriage at age 18 in 1827 (the banns state 'both of this parish) to George Craven. Sorry, can't help at all.
