Hello
Recently discovered that my 2xgt grandmother died at a place called Cricket Farm,Moss Side in Manchester on 9th July 1861.Her name was Mary Ann WILKINSON.
I have checked two cemeteries that were open at that time namely Manchester General Cemetery and Ardwick Cemetery . The latter being some distance away but previous relatives have been buried there.
The checks were made via the usual family history websites but to no avail.
Do you think that the cemetery records should be rechecked manually at the
appropriate record offices?
I believe I have located the property in the area of Moss Lane west so I could work out what Churches were in the area with graveyards . Could anyone tell me please whether that area has been indexed in the National Burial Index.
Many thanks
Eric

Hello
Many thanks for reading my post and your replies.
I have her in the 1861 census at Moss Lane West with her daughter, son in law and their family.
Yes the death registration is correct September quarter 1861 and I have death certificate also reported by her daughter.
I know from 1861 census that she was a widow, also confirmed by 1851 census and 1843 Trade directory .
Husband Joseph not on 1841 census and I am presently looking into his death possibly in 1838 recorded in Bolton together with the Church . Early days with that one.
Even if I confirm Joseph I doubt whether she would have been reunited with him due to distances involved .
Thanks for suggesting St. James . May have to trawl through few Churches . Also wondered whether there could have been boundary changes and I am missing another cemetery within that area . Thanks again . Eric

Cricket Farm & Moss Lane West are in the parish of St Matthew, Stretford. Have you looked for a burial there ???

Hello
Thanks Rosie for your replies and information about St Matthews , Stretford .
I think my plan will be to look at Churches in the area on Genuki and identify ones that have /had graveyards and trace the respective record offices to check the burials . Not as though I will be looking at many as I would have thought the burial would have taken place within 2 weeks of her death.
Many thanks
Eric :)

Hello
Thank you Cancan that does sound promising . I didn't pick up on that one from my research that's why I was going to do a manual check in the records .
The cause of death is the same as my death certificate and her age for the burial being 8 years older but I have had that before with transcriptions . Her place of death also corresponds .
Thank you for giving me the names of the other occupants as I am sure that Ellen Hughes has figured in my previous research.
Your time and expertise much appreciated
Eric
