Hi There,
I would be grateful for any assistance with my research into the ancestors of Elizabeth Curtis, my G2 grandmother.
Elizabeth married my G2 grandfather George Brooker in 1845. Her father Joseph Curtis is noted on the Marriage Cert.
In 1851, as described on the Census, she was age 33 and living in Overton, Hampshire. By 1857, she died, age 38.
So that wouild place her birthdate somewhere in the time 1818-1820.
From my analysis of the IGI, an Elizabeth Curtis was born Nov, 1820 in Old Basing , Hampshire. Her Father is listed as Joseph (so match there) and mother listed as Sarah.
I am seeking confirmation from the 1841 Cenus, if available and possible, that Elizabeth then aged about 20-23, was living with Joseph and Sarah, possibly in Old Basing.
Any assistance gratefully received.

Hi James
Had a look at 1841 of Basing, but no Curtis family there I'm afraid....lots of Brookers though.
Where did they get married? This might help track them down

Hi Stuart,
George Brooker and Elizabeth Curtis were married in Overton in 1845.
Looking at the 1851 Census, Elizabeth's BirthPlace was listed as Overton, I hadn't noticed that before, so maybe Joseph Curtis and Family were living in Overton at the time too.
Is it possible to do a 1841 lookup of the Curtis family in Overton? or at least Elizabeth who in 1841 was age approximately 20-23.
Cheers,
James

Hi James
Unfortunately the 1841 of Overton is mostly very faded and much of it is illegible (I always seem to be saying this, but it's true!!)
I did however manage to find Elizabeth Curtis, aged 20, female servant, to one John Jaques , aged 75, Independent (ie living off his own means). n 1841 the ages were rounded down to the nearest 5, so 20 could be 20-24, which looks hopeful!
Unfortunately if her parents were still around, they were lost in the faded bits!!
Hope this helps a bit!

Stuart,
That will do me. It still doesn't provide insight into where she was born or who her parents were but I just may have to conclude that a written record isn't available. Thanks so much for yur help.

In referring to the 1851 Census and the IGI, it appears that a number of Curtis families lived in Whitchurch at about that time, not far from Overton. I'll take my search for Joseph and family there.
